Means of Egress and Fire Protection

Buildings must be constructed with exits that are always easy to find and access that allows for constant access to those exits. To do this, it is necessary to adhere to a few basic architectural principles to guarantee that the means of egress is set up so that occupants may access an exit safely and effectively. The arrangement of the channels of travel within the means of egress as well as the distance occupants must travel to an exit must all be taken into account when designing the means of egress. OSHA’s Standard 29 CFR 1910 Subparts E and L – general industry; 29 CFR 1926 Subpart F – construction requires that employers must provide safe and healthful workplaces for their employees.
