When you own and operate any type of business it is your responsibility to ensure that all of your employees from the janitor all the way up to the highest level of management receive the appropriate hazard communication training to ensure that they work in the safest possible conditions at all times. This type of training is vital to the safety of your employees and to the ultimate success of your business. One of the most effective forms of this type of training is creating a written training program that can be used by all levels of employees. A written hazard communication program is the first thing that OSHA is likely to ask to see when they come into your facility for any type of inspection.
This program must be one that is written specifically for your company and must cover all of the methods used by management to inform your employees of the different hazards they may be exposed to in the normal course of their jobs. It should also cover any risks involved in tasks they may not do on a frequent basis and it should explain the procedures you will use to meet all hazard communications now and in the future. One of the biggest requirements today in any hazard communication program is the MSDS or Material Safety Data Sheet that must be kept in an easy to access location in your facility for all employees to use. The MSDS will cover proper product labeling practices of any hazardous chemicals that are being used in your facility and whether or not signage is needed where they are stored and what the signs should state.
You should also maintain a complete list of all chemicals used in your facility which should be listed in the same way as they are in the MSDS. The written hazard communication program should also cover how you will inform your employees of any safety measures they will need to take when working with any of these chemicals or products. This must include explanations of the precautions they must take along with any PPE your employees must wear when using, producing or storing any of these hazardous materials and cover all aspects of ongoing and update training in order to keep your employees fully cognizant of your complete HAZCOM program and what their specific role in it is. You must train all new employees and provide current employees with ongoing hazard communications training on a regular basis in order to ensure the lowest possible risk of injury. If you introduce new products into your facility you must inform them of this fact and provide the necessary training to ensure their protection and continued safety. If you need to provide training to your employees and do not have the staff to provide the training let CSEM provide the training for you. With trainers that have over 30 years experience in industrial safety they can provide all of the training you need make sure you employees are safe at all times.
